Soft skin-interfaced mechano-acoustin sensors for real-time monitoring and patient feedback on respiratory and swallowing biomechanics

This paper introduces a wireless, wearable technology that enables continuous, mechanoacoustic tracking of respiratory activities and swallows throughts movements and vibratory processes monitored at the skin surface. Validation studies in healthy adults (n=67) and patients with dysphagia (n=4) establish measurement equivalency to existing clinical standard equipment. Additional studies using a differential mode of operation reveal similar performance even during routine daily activities and vigorous exercise. A graphical user interface with real-time data analytics and a separate, optional wireless module support both visual and haptic forms of feedback to facilitate the treatment of patients with dysphagia.

Rapid Screening of Physiological Changes Associated with COVID-19 Using Soft Wearables and Structured Activities: A Pilot Study

A soft body-conforming wearable sensor was placed on the suprasternal notch for the measurement of physical activity, cardio-respiratory function, and cough sounds. The study detected altered heart rate, respiratory rate, and heart rate variability in patients (n=14) who tested positive for COVID-19 compared to healthy subjects.

A skin-conformable wireless sensor to objectively quantify symptoms of pruritus

A ML algorithm validated on data collected from healthy subjects (n=10) indicates excellent performance relative to smartwatch-based approaches. Clinical validation in a cohort of predominately pediatric patients (n=11) with moderate to severe atopic dermatitis included 46 sleep-nights totaling 378.4 hours. The data indicates an accuracy of 99% (84.3% sensitivity, 99.3% specificity) against visual observation. This work suggests broad capabilities relevant to applications ranging from efficacy of drugs for conditions that cause itch to monitoring disease severity and treatment response

Advanced Machine Learning Tools to Monitor Biomarkers of Dysphagia: A Wearable Sensor Proof-of-Concept Study

Proof-of-concept demonstrates the feasibility of collecting simultaneous swallow-respiratory wearable sensor data in a clinical setting to create sensitive, multidimensional metrics on swallowing behavior. The study demonstrated the capabilities to capture subtle differences in individual swallows across bolus types and dysphagia severities.

Evaluation of non-invasive continuous physiological monitoring devices for neonates in Nairobi, Kenya: a research protocol

Protocol to compare and evaluate two existing non-invasive multiparameter, continuous physiological monitoring devices developed by EarlySense and Sibel to accurately and reliably measure vital signs in neonates (when compared with validated reference devices). The study will be performed at Aga Khan University and Pumwani Maternity Hospital both in Nairobi, Kenya (n=500 neonates).
